A Shared History Seminar

Speaker: Dr Jackie Huggins

SCRGI was delighted to host Dr Jackie Huggins AM, for their Reconciliation Week Shared History seminar Talking Treaty and Reconciliation held on 29 May at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Dr Huggins who is a Bidjara and Birri-Guba women, author and historian, was Co-Chair of the Eminent Panel and Working Group, Pathway to Treaty in Queensland. 

At the seminar Dr Huggins discussed reconciliation, the Queensland treaty process and took questions from the audience. The seminar was chaired by Stephen Mam, Sunshine Coast Council First Nations Partnerships Officer, and the Welcome to Country was conducted by Lyndon Davis.  

Dr Huggins’ books include: Auntie Rita, published in 1994 about her Mother. Sister Girl – Reflections on Tiddaism, Identity and Reconciliation, first published in 1998 by Uni of Qld Press, and updated and republished by UQP in 2022; Jack of Hearts: QX11594 about her father co-written with her sister Ngaire Jarro and published in 2022 by Magabala Books.
