The results of the 2024 Australian Reconciliation Barometer (ARB), a survey Reconciliation Australia carries out every two years. The ARB tracks how First Nations peoples and non-Indigenous Australians feel about each other, and what they think about important issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
The 2024 barometer results show strong support for reconciliation with 85% of Australians surveyed believing the relationship between non-Indigenous and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is important.
The barometer data has been released as a series of ‘Reconciliation Snapshots’, which together provide a point-in-time understanding of the attitudes and behaviours among different groups of people to paint a clearer picture of Australia’s reconciliation journey.
The ARB results show that, despite the economic and global challenges and despite the disinformation and racism we witnessed during the referendum campaign, most Australians share an enduring optimism in the possibility of a more united Australia, a willingness to work together and the belief that the Federal Government should do more to advance reconciliation.
It is especially encouraging to see the growing support for reconciliation from two critical demographic groups: Multicultural Australians and Young Australians.
